Our Story

Built out of a love for kids, science, recess, and the belief that curiosity should never be extinguished.

Lindsey Coker, Founder of STEAMCamp for Kids

Hi, I'm Lindsey Coker

20+ year educator. Mom of three. Founder of STEAMCamp for Kids.

I started STEAMCamp for Kids in the summer of 2020 because I couldn't watch children sit inside, staring at screens, while their curiosity quietly faded. As a career classroom teacher, I knew what happened when kids were deprived of hands-on, joyful learning — and I wasn't going to let that happen without a fight.

So I took every ounce of what I'd learned about child development, kinesthetic learning, and the power of recess, and I built something new. Something that gives kids a safe, energetic, inspiring space to make messes, run around outside, build robots, mix chemicals, and discover the world around them.

What started as a single camp in Fairhope, Alabama has grown to 13+ locations — including a partnership with Gulf State Park's Learning Campus, the Alabama School of Math and Science, and a camp in Rangeley, Maine. We now sit on the Alabama STEM Council Design Team, and we're just getting started.

Every child who walks through our doors deserves to feel smart, capable, and curious. That is the promise of STEAMCamp for Kids.

What We Believe

  • Hands-on, exploratory learning is the single best way to ignite curiosity — in formal classrooms and beyond.
  • "Failure" is a necessary part of the process. We design for it, celebrate it, and learn from it together.
  • The engineering design process is a natural pathway for children as young as preschool age — structure doesn't have to mean rigid.
  • Screens off. Shoes on. Kids learn best when they're moving, touching, building, and exploring the real world around them.
  • Outside play isn't a reward — it's the curriculum. Fresh air, loose parts, and room to run are non-negotiables in every STEAMCamp program.
  • Every child deserves to walk away with a huge smile and a mind full of curious wonder.

"I look forward to partnering with you to customize our program to your needs and desires." — Lindsey Coker, Founder
